About NAMEC

NAMEC was founded in 2001 by Karen Overstreet, EdD, RPh, FACEHP, CHCP; Richard Tischler, Jr., PhD; Jacqueline Parochka, EdD; and Mark Schaffer, EdM, four leaders in the field of medical education who had a vision to create an independent organization that would represent, advocate for, and educate its members.

The key goals include:

• Serving as a forum for discussion of issues, problems, and opportunities relevant to medical education companies (MECs)

• Strengthening relationships among MECs, other types of CME providers, and industry supporters

• Hosting educational activities dedicated specifically to the needs of NAMEC members

• Publishing papers and statements that support the continuing professional activities produced by MECs

• Representing MECs to the media and other outside organizations

• Providing Best Practice and Exemplary CME Professional Awards to recognize exceptional contributions to CME by organizations and individuals

• Creating a mechanism for dialogue among representatives of various accredited and non-accredited MECs

Today, NAMEC continues to function as a representative and advocate of the industry. If you are interested in becoming a member of NAMEC, please review the eligibility requirements and contact the NAMEC Business Office.

NAMEC is incorporated in the state of Maryland and is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(6) organization.
